Participation is more than just showing up. It's getting involved.

About the Initiative

Getting involved is easy. In the first year alone, up to 500 internship opportunities will be created for Alberta’s students by organizations in the nonprofit/voluntary sector.

Organizations in Alberta’s nonprofit/voluntary sector create a part-time intern position for the meaningful tasks they need completed – from managing the organization’s social media, to creating communication plans, to organizing events – the possibilities are endless! Organizations then post the internship opportunity – for free! – on SCiP’s searchable internship list, where hundreds of students are searching for opportunities.

Students work together with the organization to meet the goals and expectations of the internship. The internships are meant to be complementary to, not to replace, the student’s course load.

Upon completion of the internship, when all the agreed upon goals have been met, the student will receive a $1000 bursary from Alberta Advanced Education and Technology.

Volunteer Alberta continuously engages with nonprofit/voluntary sector organizations across Alberta to support the development of the internship opportunities. In collaboration with Vantage Point, Volunteer Alberta has created capacity building tools to support organizations as they develop their internship opportunity.
